Going to the Chapel: A Timeless Treasure

Going to the Chapel: A Timeless Treasure

Wedding season is upon us and thus, one of our favorite projects is shining in the spotlight. The Cliffs at Glassy Chapel has become a timeless treasure for all who have visited. No matter the occasion, the surrounding landscape provides a spectacular frame around each event. From the beautiful stonework to the large windows, this structure is the perfect spot for a fall wedding. And, a fall wedding is exactly what the Rubio family used it for last month!

Love is in the Air

Lauren and Justin during their ceremony at the Chapel.

At the beginning of October, our very own Lauren Rubio wed Justin Yon. Needless to say, the entire Gabriel Builders family could not have been more excited! Their wedding was held at the Glassy Chapel where Gabe Rubio (Lauren’s oldest brother) and his wife Jodi were married as well.

When our children take their dates to see the Chapel, we realize it must be getting serious. My favorite part is the old, timbered cross that stands behind the Chapel in front of the mountains. We took pictures of a new bride and groom in front of that cross in October – what a foundation for a marriage! – Belinda Rubio

The History of the Chapel

The Rubios at the Cliffs at Glassy Chapel - Greenville, SC

The chapel has become a very special place in the hearts of the Rubios over the years. In the early 90s, Jim Anthony, the original developer of The Cliffs, had a vision for a place like this. The Chapel was meant to be somewhere where people could come for worship, meditation, weddings and celebrations. When he approached the Rubios about building it, it was a special invitation for them.

Our lives and business are based on our faith in Jesus Christ, so to be able to honor our beliefs and construct a chapel was extremely touching and special. – Belinda Rubio

The chapel was designed by Atlanta architect, Stephen Fuller. It has incredible views of the Greenville and Spartanburg areas along with breathtaking mountain scenery. As with any project, building the chapel came with it’s surprises. One month before the completion date, there was a small tornado that blew the roof off!

When Justin and Lauren tied the knot on October 7, 2017, it could not have been more special. It was a beautiful time for the entire Rubio clan as they watched their family grow. Lauren was a gorgeous bride and the chapel was clearly the perfect place to spend this special day. How many people can say they got married in a chapel that their dad built?

With wedding season at its peak for the fall, this time of year is a great reminder of how special the chapel is. It was a blessing to a part of such an iconic piece of The Cliffs Communities. Over the years, we’ve loved seeing people celebrate some of their most important life moments here. Not to mention, our own.
