National Custom Home Builder of the Year

Ron

Senior Project Manager

At an early age, Ron discovered the construction industry, through grit and determination, he has dedicated over 36 years to honing his skills and perfecting the art of high-end homes. His depth of knowledge and pride in his craft is reflected daily in his role as Senior Project Manager at Gabriel Builders.

Tell us about yourself and why you enjoy your role as a project manager?

I genuinely believe that the most essential part of communication is listening, and listening to the client from design through the build is critical to the success of the project. Will Rogers said it best when he said, “Never miss a good chance to shut up.” As a Senior Project Manager at Gabriel Builders, I am entrusted to guide the homeowner through the building process while building a trusting relationship. Ultimately, the client has placed their confidence in Gabriel Builders to ensure that their investment is being carefully cared for with the highest form of integrity from the first cut to the last stroke.

I married my wonderful wife, Terri, and her two daughters in 1999 when the girls were 6 and 8 years old. This was definitely the best decision that I have made in life! Terri is the best life partner a guy could ever hope for. She is from Charleston, South Carolina while I was born and raised in Texas. I began working as a concrete laborer during the summer while in Highschool. My dad left my mom, me, and my two younger sisters at the beginning of my sophomore year. Unfortunately, that left me no choice but to quit school and begin working full time for the concrete company in order to contribute to the wellbeing of my family. Definitely developed my legs during that time! I completed my GED and a few college courses because I really enjoyed learning. I always say that I didn’t choose construction…construction chose me. What is interesting to me is that I enjoy building now more than I have at any time in my life. I think perhaps because of my construction knowledge base it comes much easier to me.

What is your favorite part of the process of building a home?

The build process is enjoyable for me from start to finish. Once you get to applying the interior and exterior trim to a home, along with cabinetry, it really begins to show its character.

Fun Fact:

I love Cowboy Mounted Shooting! Strapping on leather with two single action 45’s. Riding Rooster, my beautiful red sorrel with four white socks and blowing through a course of 10 balloons as fast as you can ride and shoot.

Describe your values and how they inform your career?

I would have to say that God, in large part, informs my career. God-like values inform and direct my daily decisions. Far from perfect, but certainly impactfully, from being honest to treating others as I would like to be treated. I think that a relationship, any relationship, isn’t truly a relationship without trust. Trust is a result of honesty. When you add the desire for only good things to happen for someone, it makes for a great relationship!

Favorite Quote:

I am split between two favorite quotes that really go together. Both quotes are from Will Rogers.

“There are three kinds of men. The ones that learn by readin. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves.”

AND

“Common sense ain’t common.”

What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekends?

On the weekends, I enjoy making things with my hands like woodworking and finishing.
