Old World Estate: The Story of Belle Terre

455 McKinney Rd-Simpsonville-SC-29681

JUST LISTED ON THE MARKET FOR $10,750,681

The Belle Terre home is 30,000 square feet of Old World meets eclectic and shabby chic. Sitting on a private, 50 acre estate just outside of Greenville, SC, this handcrafted home is a colorful work of art. Belle Terre has 6 bedrooms, 5 full baths, 4 half baths, a 10-car garage and pool house – everything you could ever dream of!

A dream team of designers, engineers and landscapers came together to complete this home. The homeowners, the McBride Family, wanted to ensure that their home was built with top-notch quality and design. With a team consisting of Gabriel Builders, Mayme Baker Interiors, Dabney Peeples, CB Engineering Group, and an all-star group of vendors and subcontractors, this home was the build of a lifetime.

Like most of our clients, the McBrides were focused on attention to detail and a passion for their dream home. Gabriel is honored to partner with them, and all the great designers and trade folks in crafting and building this extraordinary home. It was a great experience dealing with them and we are blessed to call them friends.

Welcome Home

When entering onto the estate, a beautiful gate opens up to a scenic drive toward the house. With a pond on one side and pasture on the other, it makes for a gorgeous route home. Upon reaching Belle Terre, there are beautiful water features, port cocheres and incredible landscaping to welcome you home.

The way the house was designed on an angle and with different masses and rooflines I felt the need to have a bold and easily-understood, at -first-glance layout. Therefore, a one-point perspective was used from the initial approach at the front gate all the way to the purple bench set in a colonnade of Italian cypresses.

The rest of the master plan was mainly understanding what the land was already doing and trying to fit in the client’s program as simply and unobtrusively as possible. When completed, my goal was to make it look like it was older than it was and not be jarring to the eye. It’s a big house, I grant you that, but my job was to make it one with the land as much as possible.

Beautifully Built

Gabe Rubio, the project manager for this home, dedicated 100% of his time to the build. Rubio worked with residential designer, Jack Thacker and Chad Brendle of the CB Group to accomplish the many intricate features of the home such as the groin vault ceilings and custom moldings. The structure of the home is also an incredible feature. The CB Group worked with Gabriel Builders hand in hand on the structural design process. They implemented heavy steel and engineered lumber to create a strong, firm foundation without compromising the beauty.

This is the first project where Gabriel Builders installed “engineered lumber” in all of the exterior framed walls, roof rafters, and vaulted ceilings. Over 200 tons of structural steel I-beams, integrated with the ultra-stable engineered framing lumber, helped achieve perfectly level walls & floors – virtually eliminating any chance of future settling cracks.  I know of no other house that “feels” so solid and well-built as this one.

Special Features

The features in this home are too many to count! The tropical pool house is an oasis all its own as it blends with the landscape while also providing the perfect place to both entertain and escape to. If you need another outdoor escape, the large greenhouse on the property is another great option. Moving inside, the two-story library is a beautiful work of craftsmanship with a study on the first floor and endless shelves of books on the second. Perhaps one of the most exquisite spaces in Belle Terre is the large wine cellar complete with a separate tasting room. The McBrides wanted to make it feel completely underground, so they had concrete walls poured to achieve the look.
